Susan van Elmpt

Susan graduated from the British School of Shiatsu-Do in 2003, since when she has been running her practice in West London. She obtained the Shiatsu Society’s MRSS status in 2005, qualifying as a Shiatsu teacher (MRSS-T) and also gaining her PGCE professional teacher status in 2010. She currently teaches at the BSS-Do and the CityLit adult education institute in London, as well as giving private tuition.

With a career background mainly in business and the media, Susan lived and worked for many years in the Netherlands, where she also qualified as a teacher of English within the Dutch education system.

After moving back to London in 1997, Shiatsu began to take up more and more of her time and enthusiasm. She currently practices in and outside London and also has clients in the Netherlands, which she visits on a regular basis.

Besides a strong belief in the benefits of Shiatsu for furthering general health and well-being, Susan’s areas of special interest include working with the broad range of stress-related issues that modern society can cause. A particular focus of attention is releasing joints and working with the back and spine, as these are often key areas for addressing other problems throughout the body.

In June 2009, Susan also completed her training in Auricular Acupuncture, known for its powerful de-stressing, detoxifying impact and for effective pain relief.

As part of her continuing professional development, Susan has followed a wide variety of courses, training sessions, workshops and tutorials with, among others, Wataru Ohashi, Shizuko Yamamoto and Patrick McCarty, Michael Rose, Sonia Moriceau, Carola Beresford-Cooke, Saul Goodman, Bill Palmer and Ole Eskildsen.
