Sei-ki: The Secret Art of Shiatsu
With Alice Whieldon
April 22-23 2017
Sei-ki was the name chosen by Kishi sensei for his particular style of work in the Shiatsu tradition. Originally training with his father then Namikoshi, he became the top disciple and assistant to Masunaga throughout the 1970s.
Sei-ki is soul medicine; a commitment to the Truth of how things are and regarded by Kishi as a modern expression of the Japanese arts. Here, the client is understood to be neither body nor mind. The true person is timeless and perfect but so often lost in stories and locked in the past which manifests through distortions of mind and body, manifesting as ill health.
Sei-ki develops resonant ‘touch’ to re-establish contact and restore us to ourselves so we can breathe again.
Rooted in a philosophy that includes but transcends technique and emphasises the development of wisdom as the path of the practitioner, Shiatsu is a hidden art. As such, with its focus on surface and fast information, the modern world can leave us ill-equipped to learn this kind of internal art which can consequently seem difficult and mysterious.
This workshop will explore the philosophy behind Sei-ki and Shiatsu and how it can inform our work with clients, friends and family, that is fulfilling for both. We will look at how to learn a secret art through practice and demonstration combined with points of discussion and theory.
